Child Marriage in Afghanistan

“Many Afghan girls are not even informed when they will get married and to whom,” says Telma Azimi, a 24-year-old artist in Afghanistan.

“Just like that, one day when they come home from play or school, they are told, “You have grown up, and this is your husband with who you will live with from now on.” There she is, suddenly with the responsibility of a grown-up. Growing up! She hardly knows what that is.”

Unicef and Telma are using illustration to advocate for girls’ education and an end to child marriage.
